Through our Legacy Services, we assist surviving spouses and children who might struggle through the maze of issues required to be handled after the loss of their loved one.

NCM helps individuals, through our Financial Consulting Services, plan for their retirement, college educations for their children and grandchildren and estate planning for their peace of mind.

Our Institutional Consulting Services provide valuable insight into ways to improve corporate, and non-profit Investment Guidelines statements to assist financial executives develop strategies to reach their organizational goals. We also aid in coordinating the selection and evaluation of multiple investment managers.

Jennifer D. Nicholson, President

Jennifer D. Nicholson, MBA, CFP, is President and Chief Investment Officer of Nicholson Capital Management. With over 30 years of experience in the trust and investment fields, she leads a team that manages investment portfolios for many types of clients, both personal and institutional, covering a variety of types of accounts, including individual, IRA, trust and 401(k). The team also provides financial consulting and planning services. She is Chair of the NCM Investment Committee that sets investment strategy for the firm.

A trailblazer in the world of investments, she co-founded Conus and Nicholson, Inc. in 1988, becoming one of the first women to establish an independent investment advisory firm in Kansas City. In 1998, she became sole owner of the firm and renamed it Nicholson Capital Management, Inc. As President of NCM, Jennifer possesses a wide education, an intuitive viewpoint and decades of experience in all market environments.

Jennifer began her career in 1972 as the first woman management trainee at First National Bank of Kansas City in Kansas City, Missouri and later progressed to Vice President and Group Leader in the Trust Division. During that time, she served on the Board of Directors of the Citizens Bank of Grant City, Missouri from 1973 to 1978. She revised and implemented new loan policies and investment policies at the $19 million rural bank.

In 1982, she accepted a position at First Continental Bank and Trust as the Vice President and Head of Trust Department. She also established a free-lance consulting service, providing financial planning packages and analysis to CPAs and other financial planners. In 1984, she became Vice President at Centerre Bank of Kansas City, NA.

Jennifer is the first woman to receive a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Northwest Missouri State University, graduating in 1971. At NWMSU, she was a member of Honor Society, the Dean’s List and received the prestigious Wall Street Journal Award. In 1978, she received her MBA at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and in 1980, she was licensed as a Certified Financial Planner, having attended the program at Rockhurst University. She continues to hold the license to this day.

Jennifer is a stellar participant in the growing community around her and has served on numerous boards over the years. She currently serves on the Board of the Northwest Missouri State University Foundation. She is an active contributor to the Women’s Foundation of Greater Kansas City and is a former Chair of their Advisory Counsel. Jennifer was honored as one of the 2010 Women Who Mean Business sponsored by the Kansas City Business Journal.

Susie Meyer, Senior Vice President and Portfolio Manager

Member of the Investment Committee

Susie Meyer is a Portfolio Manager for Nicholson Capital Management. As Portfolio Manager, Susie administers the rebalancing and allocation of managed accounts and executes trades. She also analyzes overall account and asset class performance versus indexes for each account.

Susie received her Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Kansas. Prior to that, she attended the University of Northern Iowa and passed the FINRA Series 7, General Securities, and Series 66, Uniform Investment Adviser Law, securities exams.

Her many interests have given Susie varied experiences in her professional life. She is a member of the Board of Directors of The Women’s Foundation of Greater Kansas City. She is active in her church, serving as a volunteer coordinator for various programs. Additionally, from 1994 to 2005, she was Business Partner/Owner in a hobby business, responsible for product design, development, marketing, web design and manufacturing supervision. Susie and her husband have three children and are currently enjoying a household collegiate rival with children attending KU and K-State.

Jean Crum, CTFA, Vice President


Jean Crum, Certified Trust and Financial Advisor (CTFA), joined Nicholson Capital Management in October 2012 as Vice President. Jean works with clients on estate and retirement planning issues. In addition, Jean works to maintain relationships with attorneys, accountants, and advisors and identifies new account opportunities while retaining and expanding existing client relationships.

Although she is the newest member of our team, she has more than 30 years experience as a trust officer with a focus on personal trust administration, including administration of trusts, investment management accounts and IRAs. She was Senior Vice President for U.S. Trust Bank of America and its predecessors and also served as Vice President and Trust Officer at Commerce Trust Company.

Jean holds a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in Liberal Arts from Drury University in Springfield, MO and a Masters in Education from the University of Missouri-Columbia. In 1992, she obtained the CTFA certification which she maintains every three years by taking courses in fiduciary law, tax law, investments, and personal finance.

She has served on the boards of numerous charities, including The Ozanam Home, Life Care Planning, Inc. and Gilda’s Club, and is currently volunteering with Garden Terrace, an Alzheimer’s facility, in Overland Park, Kansas. Jean has one son who is completing his M.S. in Finance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, two stepchildren and two step-grandchildren. In her spare time she enjoys reading mystery novels, working on crossword puzzles and traveling with her husband, Karl.

Janie Sanders, Vice President-Operations


Janie Sanders serves as Vice President-Operations after having been Business Manager of Nicholson Capital Management since February 2007. Her primary responsibility is office management, including administrative and financial. She works closely with the President on compliance issues and watches over the operations management of the firm.

She has worked in various areas of finance for over 40 years. She served 17 years as an administrative assistant for United Missouri Bank of Kansas City in its institutional trust investment department. She was later associated with the accounting firm of Deloitte, Haskins and Sells in Kansas City as its Office Manager. Following that, she worked 22 years for DeMarche Associates, a financial consulting firm in Overland Park, KS, first as Office Manager and Assistant to the President, then as its Event Director, administratively overseeing meetings and programs of the firm.

Janie attended the University of Missouri-Columbia, where her primary focus was speech. She has several interests, including being a majority member and adult advisor of the International Order of Rainbow for Girls, a Masonic organization. She and her husband are active in their church and they are parents of a married son and grandparents to a beautiful granddaughter. During her leisure time, she enjoys being an enthusiastic football and collegiate basketball fan.

Janet Huber, Account Administrator


Janet Huber joined Nicholson Capital Management in August 2010 as Account Administrator and Receptionist. Her cheerful voice is the first thing our clients hear when calling NCM. Her job responsibilities include monitoring clients’ asset allocation targets and tracking returns for our stock and mutual fund holdings. Operationally, Janet oversees the month-end reconciliation and the ongoing update of our client database. Janet is excellent in assisting our clients with service-related matters.

She was a Personal Banker and Teller with Bank of America for 12 years. Janet also served as an administrative secretary in the Blue Valley West High School district for four years.

Janet graduated from Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa with a Degree in Psychology. She and her husband have two children. Janet spends her free time volunteering at church and at the Blue Valley School district. She and her family also enjoy spending time at the family lakehouse in Minnesota. Janet is currently completing her RYT 200 certification to become a yoga instructor in the evening.

Cynthia L. Barker, Administrative Assistant


Cynthia L. Barker joined Nicholson Capital Management in May 2008 after a 30-year career as Business Manager and co-founder of a family dental office. During that time, she also managed a large portfolio of commercial real estate rental properties. Cynthia is in charge of all audit responsibilities for the trading activity of the firm. She verifies that all trades are properly documented and tracked for compliance reasons. Additionally, she assists portfolio managers in tracking calls of municipal and corporate bonds. She uses her considerable organizational skills to ensure compliance issues requirements are addressed. Cynthia holds a business degree and is very involved with her family and community. She is an essential part of the success of NCM.
